1997 S-10 Blazer 4X4 Starter V-6

Anyone know why the starters for this model cost so much? Had an issue with the starter shorting out causing a drain on battery and alt. Turned out to
be a pretty expensive problem to fix. Thanks for the input. D

They are a relatively high output compact design that use permanent magnets instead of field winding. The magnets are expensive and harder to replace than a field winding. Many of the cores returned have broken magnets due to people beating on them with a hammer (or blunt object of choice) when they fail in a vain attempt to get them to work.

Don't they use the same starter as the small V8? If so: http://www.db-starter-alternator.com/Starter%20Motors/Mini%20Hi%20Performance/Chevy-General%20Motors /
