disconnect front end?

90 GMC K-10 4x4 ext cab

The axel on the front right (passenger's side) has slid out some. It can be moved in and out easily... but there's enough push-back to keep it from coming all the way out. Would it hurt anything to take the front drive shaft out until I can get around to fixing it? Guess that still wouldn't stop it from spinning though? (automatic hubs)

no it won't hurt anything to take the front drive shaft out, but it won't do you any good. there are no "automatic hubs". Those trucks use a central axle disconnect system, which decouples the passenger side axle from the differential. the driver's side axle is always connected to the differential and the spider gears are always spinning. the CV shafts themselves are permenantly splined into the wheel flanges and always spin with the tires.
