low sulfer diesel

What is the complete story about 'low sulfer diesel'? Pump signs say about current diesel fuel 'do not use this in 2007 or newer vehicles'. Will the new 'low sulfer' diesel work in older vehicles?

Diesel fuel has long escaped low sulpher requirement and it is also the reason the diesels in general escaped most emiison requiremnts (they blamed it on fuel quality) With sulpher now ordered out, they can now get diesel in better compliance and starting in 2008, they will have Cat Converters too (not just Thermo Reactors for particulates like they do now) THey fuel will work in older engines though there is some debate about sulphers lubrication properties for pump and injectors. The level of sulpher in fuel will bereduced over 6 years starting starting in 2007 (manditory then) and increasing in

2013 to basically no sulpher at all to speak of. In 2007 it will be at a low enough level to allow for CAT's to be mandated on 2008 oil burners.
