Steering gear and shaft changeout 99 k1500 into a 97 K1500

Hi, Is this even possible?? My "book' warned about turnig the steering shaft with gear disconnected, might damage SRS ??? How else could it be done?? Anyone done this? All tips and suggestions welcome. Later, MB

There is a "clock spring" in the steering hub assembly that is used to power air bag in the steering whell (if it has them. If you spin the wheel aimlessly with steering box disconnect4ed you can damage the clock spring. You can turn it some (a turn or so each way) but you need to return it to the relative postion it was in in relation to steering box when you reconnect it.
