1985 Audi 4000S running rich...

My car is due for the smog test again, but it it is running rich when cold. Most likely it will not pass!

If somebody has had similar problems, perhaps they can post some tips for possible remedies.

Thanks!

Martino, If it is equipped, you should replace the oxygen sensor on the car - you can do that cheaply using a generic Bosch one and splice it into the Audi harness connector on your old sensor. The car may also have a problem with the thermo-time sensor - activating the cold start injector and richening up the mixture for an unnecessarily long time. You should get your hands on a Bentley manual for the car if you're going to troubleshoot the fuel system by yourself. Cheers! Steve Sears

Thanks again.

Martino, IIRC, the cat does not feed back into the engine (on your 1 oxygen sensor car), other than increasing backpressure. Cheers! Steve Sears
