A-8 with 12 Cylinder engine

The 12 cylinder Audi A-8's are very expensive cars. It appears they are (were) about $30 k more than an 8 cylinder car.

What did one get for that additional $30K??? Surely just the engine by itself did not add that much to the cost. Or did it?? There must have been more.

Thanks,

Eric

maybe the chassis and suspension had a redesign to cope with the extra weight.

The Audi A8 (not "A-8" btw) with W12 engine also came with several features that were optional on the 4.2ltr V8 models.

Besides that, in the luxury class prices are not necessarily reflecting manufacturing costs.

Besides the oncost for the notification of your personal superior social satus ;-) I assume some real oncost:

The homologation and evaluatrion is the same as for all other A8 but splits on a lower volume. This is a resrult of handling and driving tests, homologation procedure (legal), engine and exhaust emission control, brake system (ESP) control, ...

Also there is an adaption of the transmission required, the assembly line has to be prepared and the workers to be trained.

That's just my guess ...
