Audi A4 2006 Trip computer

It looks like the 2006 premium package for the 2.0T CVT has a missing trip computer. Looking at the manual there should be buttons on the wiper stalk but none there on mine! Could this be a mistake?!?!

I can't believe that the trip computer would not come with this model. Even my base model Passat had one -- what gives??

Does anyone know if you can install it aftermarket? I can't be without one after using it extensively in my Passat.

Thanks! Louis

Not sure what country you're in but in the UK the trip computer (DIS) is a cost option although it may be standard on the SE spec (used to be anyway)

As for aftermarket install, you'd need to change the instrument panel and it would get *very* expensive. TBH, I don't think it was worth the £300 it cost me. The MPG read out is very optimistic and I just tend to leave it on remaining range which I believe you get on a standard model anyway.

Yeah, in the States, it's called the "Technology Package." It didn't come with my car. It just seems weird to me that this wouldn't be standard in this type of car when it's standard in a lot of non-luxury cars. I really got used to using it and despite the optmistic MPG read, it still was nice to know especially in times like these.

I know what you mean. A lot of the premium marques are quite mean when it comes to standard equipment. Our previous car was a VW Bora (Jetta) that had a lot of equipment standard that was optional on our A4. The manufacturers seem to think it allows you to personalise your car but some options are probably always chosen by buyers so why not make them standard.

According to the Audi USA web site, the Premium Package should indeed include the color DID (Driver Instrument Display) - the buttons are really at the tip of the stalk, if it's like my 2004 - really more like a rocker switch than buttons. Of course, this is for US cars, not sure where you are located.

Yeah, I don't think the website is updated with the new packages for

  1. I went down to the dealer and that's what they told me.

Indeed, I just picked up my 2006 A4Q 2.0T yesterday afternoon. While it has the "Premium Package," and this "Premium Package" does include the Driver Instrument Display, it does not include the trip computer. I was a wee bit surprised as the luxury package on our 2005 allroad did include the trip computer.

Interesting, so what is in the bottom quadrant of the DID? (I.e., top

3rd would be radio info, middle would be outside temp, bottom 3rd would be computer info - gas mileage, etc..)?

A static readout of estimated miles to empty tank. Actually that works fine as its all I really used the trip computer for in the allroad anyway after the first week of playing with it.

The thing I really liked about the trip computer in the VW is it would keep your elasped time. I would use this to track which was the fastest way from work. The MPG was kinda nice too, especially during times like these. Now, I have to do that by hand.

VW has a lot of these features standard, but it is not the same ride! ;-)
