Re: 1999 A4 2.8 brakes



Well if it's made the grinding noise it needs the new discs as well as the pads, calipers are difficult to know without looking at them but 35000m isn't far off the norm for a set of pads so I'd be skeptical but not disbelieving about the calipers.

The slide pins will sieze, wearing out the inside pad. The lacky will replace the caliper, being too lazy to free the pins. Very common. The pins should be lubed with every major service, 15Kmiles or so, to prevent this. Caliper failure is uncommon, but possible. Moreso in a car that contains the original brake fluid.
