service notification

Motor = A4 2.4 V6 1997

I was about to buy a VAG-COM lead to a, reset the service notification and b, check a few warning signals that keep appearing.

a VW owner told me that a, can be accomplished by the 2 storks that protrude from the instrument cluster (one normally sets the clock the other the trip meter) some combination of press one while twisting the other.........sorta like a masons hand shake.

anyone know if this is genuine or what

and if that doesn't work try below, but if this still doesn't work use a Ross-Tech tool. :-)

Re: In1 Service Reminder Removal Posted: Feb 26, 2004 9:53 PM That's the procedure. Just to make sure: Car off. Push in odometer reset and hold, turn key to "on" position. You should see "Service oil" at this point? If so, you can push the "tach button" to toggle to the "IN" display. Once the "IN" display is up pull and HOLD the "tach button" until the "IN" resets. If this doesn't work something is going on. You can reset it with a VAG-COM in that case.

Your owner manual should tell you how to use the two cluster buttons to clear the reset notification, but you won't/can't interrogate faults. For that you need a VAG tool or emulator. One example of the latter is VAG-COM, which I use and have recommended to other Audi owners.
