328 2000 Engine Replacement

Any ideas of cost of this for engine and labor? Refurbished or new?

Says $6355 for a "short engine" which used to mean no head although the picture shows an engine with a head.

What's gone so badly wrong it wants the engine replaced? It should run for 250,000 miles before it wears out.
I'd go for a replacement from a wreck.
