86 535i Clutch Job

Doing a clutch job on my '86 535i within the next week. Seems the throwout/release bearing is making noise intermittently when the clutch is disengaged. I bled the clutch system to no avail. The sounds are similar to gears on the very edge of disengagement. When the clutch is engaged (car moving forward), no noises from the clutch. I wish there was a way to see it before going through the whole process and finding I might have been able to lube the release bearing shaft and be done with it. Any ideas from folks in the know about the job? I know it can be a PITA and included my links from research.

Pelican - 3-series, but too similar to pass up

If it's just the throw-out bearing, I'd not bother to do it. They'll make noise forever before failing. Some even make noise new.

It's not really a PITA. But if you *DO* decide to do it, replace everything (pressure plate, clutch disk, throwout bearing, thrust bearing, guibo) because you don't want to do it again.

Definitely. I ordered everything, except the guibo, which was replaced last June. The noise from the bearing is very annoying and attracts too much attention. I considered leaving it, but if you heard it, youd replace it too. It has 169,750 miles on what seems to be an original clutch. I bet when I break it open, I find the whole thing needs replacing.
