E30 OBC Issues

Hi all, my 1990 E30 has the full OBC setup (~13 button i think) which all works nicely except two small things..

Firstly, since I've had the car, the fuel range function hasn't worked. The value does change during a journey, but the reading is always between 300 and 400 miles range, even when the tank is near empty! I've detached, cleaned and reattached the connectors on top of the fuel tank, and located the one which drives the dash fuel guage, but never found anything which sends the OBC range. Anyone solved this problem before?

Secondly, the chime module, mounted in the panel under the steering column, emmits a high pitched tone all the time, even when the keys aren't in the ignition. It's not loud enough to hear when driving, but with the engine stopped it's quite noticable. The only fix i've found is to unplug the chime, but then the low temperatue warning etc are obviously out of action. I think recently it appears to be louder than before. Is the chime itself faulty? Any ideas?

Thanks very much

Mark

I've heard that theres a second sending unit but I haven't taken the time to look for it. It's supposed to be under the rear seat on the other side.

Chime is screwed. Grab one from a breakers yard and see if it fixes the problem.

Right, I wasn't sure if it would be a separate sender or just share the guage unit. I'll investigate under the seat again.

That's what i suspect too, I've got a 2nd hand one on the way so hopefully that will fix it or help diagnose.

Thanks!
