No map on navigation system

Hi, i have recently bought a bmw 6 series and when i am using the navigation system the map doesn't come as an option anywhere. the car was bought second hand and came with the dvd map. the car is fitted with a cd changer as well as the dvd drive. is there something i need to do to register the dvd with the navigation system

Did you turn on the nav system using the "Menu" button? Otherwise you'll see only the car's status info.
