recharging the a/c system...

i own a 1985 bmw e30 325e and am planning on recharging the a/c system (type R-134a)because it has stopped blowing cold. warnings on the can of refrigerant i purchased say to never try to charge the high pressure line, only the low pressure line.

the trouble is, im not certain which is which..

any help would be appreciated!

First find out WHY it needs recharging. Fix that problem THEN recharge. The shop manual should point you to the right fitting.

A simple test would be to use a tire pressure guage & put it on the fittings while the a/c is pumping.

FWIW: recharing a system w/o fixing it is a waste of time & money.

The couplings are different sizes.

Adaptors are available, but if R134a is used, care should be taken to ensure that the maximum pressure for an R12 system is not exceeded. IOW use less R134a than that used in the later system. Mike.
