X5 Interior Woodlike trim

Does anyone know if this is plastic or really wood? It looks too perfect for real wood...

It's real wood veneer, but it's got a urethane coating over it that makes it look plastic and phony. It's a common dilemma - varnish would look better, but won't last; urethane lasts, but looks fake. Most car makers go with the latter so they don't have people complaining about their wood fading, peeling, and cracking. -- "Everybody wants a normal life and a cool car; most people will settle for the car." Real wood according to BMW. There is so much clear coating on it that it may as well be fake.
