88 Fleetwwod FWD Radio Whoas!

I have a 88 D'Elegance Fleetwood FWD. I have pulled the factory out and installed a JVC KD-S570 CD Radio. Using the Metra Harness Kit what has happened is I Lost The Digital Dash of the car and all instrument panel controls (ie- No A/C or Heater Fan control) I do have turn signal but lost all the lights to the dash. I have been all over the internet trying to get this figured out. And so far I still dont have dash lights.... EXCEPT.....I get dash light and functions when I turn on my headlights.

The harness kit I used is BB1677 from Best Buy.

I created a spreadsheet that shows where all the wires from the car to the harness to the radio all connect. I will be more than happy to email you a copy if you think you can help with this issue.

The radio and all it's functions work great....however I lost like I said the dash lights.

Can anyone help me???

Any takers???

Thanks

Ken

Ken,

Common issue with many high end GM cars (Cadillacs, Buicks and Oldsmobiles). The circuitry in the radio that drives the VF (vacuum florescent) display in the radio is used to drive the VFs in the rest of the dashboard and to control the remainder of the lighting in the dash.

I had this issue with the HVAC controls in my old '87 Olds 98. I fixed it by duplicating the VF control circuit from the original Delco radio in a seperate box and connected it into the car wiring. There may be someone that has this setup prepackaged - check with some local car stereo installers and they should be able to help you out.

P.S. Check on the car harness to the radio - one of those wires should be purple. That wire I'll bet is NOT connected to the new radio.
