when i turn on my car it smells too much gas and is backfiring way too much. when i move it, it doesnt respond to good. when i turn off the car and try turning it on again it doesnt want to turn on and im trying to figure out what it is but i dont know if anyone can help plz do..

year of the car is 1988 V6 2.8 fuel injected 175,000 miles
Did you replace the plug wires:
And if you did, did you check the firing order carefully?
Also, there were some 2.8's that had timing chain failure. Not as bad as V-8's, but they did fail.
