07 Colorado front shocks

I want to replace the front shocks on my pu. Does anyone know how to do it? It looks like some kind of coil-over setup. What I really need to know is if I can change them without removing the spring and if so do I need the full wieght of the truck on the front wheels? (so it doesn't fly apart and kill me). Or, do you take it out like a strut and use a spring compressor......? It didn't look like a strut when I looked under it the other day.....It also isn't a "normal" coil setup....

In case anyone cares, the front shocks are installed just like struts, well...they are struts,well.....kinda :) It is actually a "coil-over" setup.

It seems they are all going over to that type of setup on the new trucks. Chevy, Ford, Toyota, etc. You pretty much work on them just like any other strut. Why replacing one on a 07 Colorado seems kind of silly. I've replaced them on a few of these newer trucks but only because of doing a LIFT on the trucks and them needing to be replaced, or the Coil being replaced or spacer added to gain lift. I would Recommend a Spring compressor to do them. I'm sure some people may cheat and not use one, but I never would or recommend it.

I'm going to replace them cause it bounces too much for me. I've had good luck with Monroe Sensa Tracs so I'm gonna try a set of them on it.

I will use a spring compressor for sure.

Also it seems as if the truck is sitting to high for the shocks, like it hits a bump stop (but opposite) when going over a speed bump, kinda weird. It seams the wheels drop faster than the truck on the back side of the bump and it hits it's limit. Kinda hard to explain. Opposite bottoming out I guess you could say.

I don't think the new shocks will affect that much , but it would be nice if they did though. And they might.

Please don't recomend KYBs, they suck! Every pair I've put on have been worse than the worn out ones they replaced.
