1993 Silverado Transmission Jerk

I have a 1993 Silverado 2WD with 5.7 liter engine with just over

200,000 miles. Its been a GREAT truck and maintenance has always been performed on or ahead of schedule.

I've recently started getting SEVERE jerking/clunking when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. All other gear shifts are clean. This happens no matter how fast or slow I approach the normal shift 1st to 2nd gear shift speed. Picture a jack rabbit start and turtle speed approach.

I took it in to an automatic transmission shop here in Phoenix and they pulled the pan and inspected for a suspected broken spring in the accumulator. No broken spring! They also hooked up their test equipment to the truck and, lo and behold, no codes! They changed the rear universal joint, refilled the tranny pan with new oil and took it for a test drive all for a paltry $157. When they completed the test drive, there was NO CHANGE, it STILL clunked and jerked. But for about $1100 they could make it go away. Go figure! I figure I learned a good $157 lesson, but it was worth a shot.

It's something I would like to fix since I have a handicapped wife who uses the truck more than I do and its really starting to bother and impede her mobility.

Looking for some leads on this since there are a lot smarter folks out there than me on this one!

Any special Chevy tranny codes I should be looking for if I get a dealer to look at it? Are there any simple fixes I can make that might alleviate this problem BEFORE I take it in? Would it be possible to CLEAR a code that might not be valid by disconnecting the battery?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if the 93 is 460 electronic tranny, but my 700R when it had that problem was what's called the TV cable at the TBI- near what looks like a carb. have them check the adjustment tention

Sounds like an honest shop, why not have them fix it?

$1100 to fix it, but they don't know what the problem is? Sounds like a rebuild. $157 for the work they did do sounds reasonable though.
