1994 S10 Tailpipe driving me nuts

Hi everyone,

I own a 1994 Chevy S-10 Pickup, V6, 4.3 liter shortbed (6 foot) Z model (the

8th letter in the vin number is a Z) it has the Vortec Engine.

lately we've been trying to work on the truck and noticed the muffler and tail pipe were very rotted out.

Here is my dilemma.

we changed the muffler with an aftermarket with no problem.

when it comes to the tailpipe.. no matter where I go to get an aftermarket Tail pipe, (Chevy discontinued original tailpipes and mufflers) the new tailpipe does not match the old one and unless it is somehow bent it will not fit.

They both start out similar but then the original and the new ones i've purchased bend in totally opposite directions.

The car does not seemed to have been modified in any way and I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had a problem like this.

Another thing I noticed was that when I ordered the 2 rear E brake cables and the parts came in from the local chevy dealer.. both items were shorter than what should be used in the car and have to be sent back.

I think these two problems might be realated.

If anyone has any idea what could be the problem I'd really appreciate it.

Please post the reply in this group.

Thank you!

I had the tailpipe problem on my 93 extended cab shortbed. I finally had to get the tape measure out and verify my wheelbase. Mine was a 122, and the parts guy was giving me parts for shorter wheelbase trucks. All the tailpipes were a different number.

The Goerlichs website shows three different tailpipes and two pipes in front of the muffler for that particular model truck. Depending upon the option package and 4 wheel drive.

thank you for your reply.

i wish my problem was the wheelbase size problem you talked about..

the length of my tailpipe is correct.. its the darn shape that screwes everything up.

i went to Goerlichs's website but for some reason under the OE parts, they dont have my truck listed whichs is a 4X4 they only show the 2 Wheel drive model..

aye.

Go to a Muffler shop and get one made to fit! It's not going to cost that much. Better then screwing around trying to find one Pre-Made to put on yourself.

Sure it shows your truck. I bet you forgot the designation for four wheel drive is "T" Not "S"

The tailpipes listed are # 54893 standard, and 54894 for the ZR2/High Rider.

I got the diagrams and part numbers printed off of that site and i'm going to go to an authroized dealer and see if they can help me out with my problem.
