1996 Sonoma wont start

This 1996 2.2L 4 cyl Sonoma wont start. I checked and found no compression at all on 2,3, and 4 cyl and almost nothing on 1. Took off the valve cover and found the valve trane working, seemingly ok. What could be wrong? Thanks for any help.

Working -- but timed right?

Larry, Sounds like your timing belt has jumped a tooth or two. How many miles on the truck and how many since the timing belt was replaced. Jim

Jim, I just replaced the timing chain, tensioner and sprockets because a bad tensioner and jumped time. I lined up the timing marks with the tabs on the tensioner and checked it by holding a string tight across the centerlines of the sprockets through the tensioner tabs. It was blowing back through the throttle body before I changed it. The truck has a lot of miles and not taken care of-oil changes, etc.Could I have a some bent valves when it jumped time?

Sounds logical to me.

Larry, It is possible you have bent valves, but if it were me, I'd pull the timing chain cover and go through it one more time just to be absolutely sure you have the timing chain set right. At least on the positive side you only have ONE head to pull if the valves are bent. Good Luck Jim
