2003 Tahoe intermittant start issues

My 2003 Tahoe is having intermittant start issues. I turn the key, nothing happens (no click, no nothing, total silence from the engine). I still have electictrics inside the cab. I wait 10-15mins, turn the key again, and it cranks right up, and it'll keep cranking for a week or two, then it conks out again!

I thought it was the battery, changed it out, but that hasn't helped.

I took it to the dealer and, well, I might as well have called my mom.

Any ideas? (other than trade it in -- that's all the dealer had to offer...)

Thanks!

Hi Saul,

My 2002 Safari would not start the day after returning from two long trips. The first time I had the vehicle hauled to the dealer who was able to start it after the tow truck ride. After placing a load test on the battery it again would not start because of a bad cell in the battery. The dealer replaced the battery. Two weeks later after another long weekend trip it would not start on Monday morning. I let the vehicle sit and it did start on Tuesday. Not being satisfied with this arrangement, I removed the starter and with fine sandpaper cleaned all of the corroded terminals, washers, and nuts. This may not be the permanent solution to the starting problem but the Safari has started for two weeks without fail.

Good luck, Charlie

If you can release the ignition switch before the engine starts and the starter keeps turning then stops after the engine starts then it might be the ignition switch relay. Had one go bad on my 2003 Trailblazer. The relay along with the ignition switch were replaced.

You know, I thought that was part of the design... I twist the key then release, a quick pop, and the starter keeps churning till the engine comes to life. I can buckle my seatbelt while it's going at it. God help me if I ever try that with an empty gas tank!

Did the Trailblazer go out hard, or intermittant?
