2004 Duramax throwing fuel??

We just got back from a 400+ mile trip with our 5th wheel and found that a lot of unburned fuel had blown into the bed. We remove the tail gate while towing. Also, a lot of fuel streaks are on the front of the trailer. My question is this: Is it normal for unburned fuel to be thrown out the exhaust on the DMax? I have to assume it came through the exhaust since it had a lot of soot mixed with it. Also, milage has dropped drastically. On previous tows from St. Louis to Bristol, TN, I was getting about 11.5 mpg. On this trip, it was only about 9.7 mpg. I would take it to the dealer, but all the mechanics are on strike in St. Louis area. Any ideas?

Thanks for any replies.

They are having a lot of fuel related issues with the new Duramax. There is a fix unfortunately they are so backed up they cant get the repair parts fast enough. Call your dealer and get on the list. You should also notice that your crankcase is filling with fuel also. If you need to drive it I would change the oil every week till you get it fixed or your gonna dilute your oil and cause premature engine wear. Suks don't it?

That is not normal. Sounds like something fairly major. You can go here,

and look in/ ask questions about it. Jody

I've checked the crank case and oil levels is staying right on FULL. Will contact dealer, but all their mechanics are still on strike. So far, I only have about 14K on the clock so lots of warranty left. Would be nice to have it blow now, as long as I'm close to home without the

5th wheel behind me.

Will post the outcome when I get it.
