2007 On-Star location?

Might be a dumb question, but here goes.... Where is the On-Star unit located on a 2007 1500 pickup? I'm assuming it's a GPS, phone modem, inter-face/processing unit of some sort. (Not the antenna or mirror keypads) I used to think I knew where everythng was on a vehicle, but I haven't a clue on this one. Just curious.....

I'd just about bet the owners manual tells all about the ONstar system and it's use and function.

Perhaps a service manual. Why do you need such information?

Like I said, just curious. Don't like joining the mass of folks that drive 'em, but don't have a clue what's under the hood. Thanks, anyway.

Don't worry about Barker, he's useless for information

Check out this site for GPS location resources.

What'd I ever do to piss you off? And I wouldn't say 30 years of real world experience and being an ASE certified master mechanic is useless information. I merely asked him why he wanted to know.

it's your attitude, it comes through in almost every post. Suggesting that one looks in the manual for the location of the onstar reciever unit is completly useless. Then asking why is just another snotty answer. If you can't supply the required information then don't bother posting. Had you done a simple google search you could have supplied valid information.

And had HE done a google search, we wouldn't be having this exchange at all.

Hot-dam fellers! I didn't mean to start a ruckus! I did a Google and got lost in a buch of no-help web pages. Thought maybe someone here might have one and know off-hand. It don't matter, really. And I did start this off by admitting it was a dumb question! I wonder if there's another beer in the fridge............

Take 'er easy

The link I posted shows what the units look like and where it is in a Blazer and Suburban. It should be fairly easy to find it in a pickup. it'll either be behind the seat, under the seat, or under the dash.

The controls are on the inside rear view mirror.

As long as we are asking dumb questions, here's mine: I had 2003 Tahoe Z71. Great car. I traded it in for a 2007 Silverado LTZ. The onstar on the Tahoe could be accessed from both the steering wheel or the mirror, however the 2007 Silverado, and the Tahoe's can only be accessed from the mirror. Why? It seems to me it made more sense to access it from the steering wheel. You have to take your eyes off the road to access onstar from the mirror. Perhaps they are telling not to drive and use onstar at the same time.

That would make alot of sense, the less distractions the better considering that americans already have to many distractions while driving. Look at all the accidents that involve inatentive driving, changing the radio, talking on the phone, playing with the gps, ect...........

Well, my question wasn't THAT dumb! I had already found the control buttons without any help and I assume that black bump on the roof is the antenna. I was asking where the VCU/VIU/GPS unit itself is located. Somewhere inside the dash, I suppose? Now, where'd I put that beer?

No offense taken. I've actually been known to miss something just that simple before. Besides, how could I not like a fellow Shiner fan!
