97 tahoe push button 4x4 problem

I have a 97 tahoe and im having problems with the push button 4 wheel drive. Just wanting to know if anyone has had the same problem or if anyone knows anything about it. Here is what it is doing.

When im in 2 wheel the light on the button is off when it is suppose to be on. it will not do anything when i hit the 4 hi button and when i hit the 4 lo button it goes in but the 4 hi and 4 lo lights are both on when i want to go back to 2 wheel it goes fine but the light does not come on

i have put another switch in it hoping that was the problem but it didnt fix it

i would appreciate any help with this thanks

take it to a shop! Might cost ya but it will fix your problem, try a local trusted transmission shop

that is what im trying to keep from doing. parts alone are gonna be very expensive. I have narrowed it down. its either gonna be the shift encoder motor $400 computer $300 or possibly a bad ground (im hoping) i dont want to have to pay someone for hours of searching if i can hopefully find someone who has had a similar problem

sorry I don't have any help options for you. But we have a 97 Tahoe and haven't had any problems with anything but the water pump which was a 1 time fix and our anti-lock brakes are acting up and some guys in here told me about the wheel speed sensors.....We have about 93,000 on it.(in another post I said we had like 78k,ooops) Just curious how many do you have? and do you use your 4x4 much where your at?

Have a Great One ! Bob :)

if you get the service 4wd error, or the buttons do not work, there is a service bulletin on it. they may replace or flash the encoder motor. My
