98 Silverado Brake Light Problem

I have a 1998 Silverado Z71. Last week, my brake lights, rear turn signals and rear hazard lights stopped working. The front lights work as they should. The fuses are good and the bulbs are good as well (when I turn my headlights on, the rear lights up). My first thought was that it was the brake lamp relay in the fuse box under the hood, but I called my local Chevy dealer and that part doesn't even come up in their computer. My mechanic thinks it may be my brake light switch. My question is: if my brake light switch is bad, would this also cause the rear blinkers/hazards to malfunction? Any other ideas?

Thank you.

No I don't believe so, and because the rear tail lights work, I wouldn't suspect the wiring harness. The only two common denominators I know in the system are the bulbs and the turn signal switch. Now then just because the tail lights work does not mean the bulbs aren't bad. The bulbs have two filaments, one for the tail lights, one for the brake/turn/ four ways.. A bulb is the cheapest thing to try.

Thanks for the idea about the bulbs. Even though they were good, there wasn't enough contact being made to make the brake light/turn signal connection. I cleaned off all the contacts last night and bent the contact plates out a bit and everything is perfect now. Thanks a ton because I would have spent 20 minutes f-cking around trying to change out my brake light switch under the dash!

Appreciate the help.
