A/C Bypass Pulley for 1996 Chevy S10

Hello All

I need to put an A/C bypass pulley on a '96 Chevy S10 because the compressor locked up. Without having it yet I wondered, does the compressor need to come off and the new pulley bracket go in place of it?

Also, it looks as if just one bolt will release the freon connection assembly, true? Is there a safe way to release the freon if you don't want to capture it? Do I just slowly crack the assembly and let it bleed off? If there is even any left in there with the compressor being frozen.

Any help would be great! Thanks in advance

Just disconnect the clutch and let it freewheel if the compressor is locked. Unless the clutch is also locked. Technically it's illegal to just vent the refrigerant but you should be able to crack the connection (wear safety glasses) and bleed it off. Before the econazi's go on the attack, the 134a in it is no different then what's used as "air" in computer air spray cans. Just because the compressor is frozen it could still be full of freon.
