AMSOIL

Hi guys, is anyone out there using this oil? I'm using Mobile 1 in my 99 Blazer 4X4 and due for an oil change next week. Been on the net and read about it and they state it's the best on the market and you can go a whole year without an oil change (using their filters or course). I'd like to hear feedback or opinions before spending the extra $$$.

Laurie,

AMSOIL is as good as they say it is. Check out this latest report of API Test results at:

Also, the cost is really not more than that of Mobil 1. AMSOIL 5w-30 is only $4.55/quart wholesale. The Super Duty Filters are around $7 for your application.

Also, if you are a business owner, you may qualify for a Commercial Account, that would allow you to buy at even lower prices then wholesale. Let me know if I can answer any questions you may have.

Take care,

Dave

Don't believe all that advertising. All synthetics are pretty much alike. You can't go wrong with Mobil 1.

What is the difference between a Group IV Synthetic and a Group III Synthetic? ooops then there is the Group V Synthetics...... Point being, Synthetics are not all the same. But if you are using Mobil 1 you are using a very good oil. You are also right that for the average driver, you really can't go wrong with Mobil 1, especially if you maintain the 3000 mile drain intervals that the oil industry would have you believe is necessary.

However, if you could do better, for the same - or - less expense, why wouldn't you want to?

Hi Doc,

Again, SPAM is unsolicited email or postings. I simply am answering a question by another poster.

It is much easier to refer someone to a website then to retype the whole thing here. You don't have to read it. Do you have something to add to Laurie's question that might help out with a decision about the subject?

It is just a discussion Doc.

Lube,

You sell the stuff, therefore you have a vested interest in promoting the product. Your advice to Laurie is biassed towards selling the product. I don't sell it, therefore my opinion isn't biased. My $0.02.

Yes, this is more cleverly disguised and more subtle than most but this is SPAM all right!

Thanks Bud your absolutely right - it makes me wonder how much other spam and advertiseing is out there that they fool us with....

I always keep buying the cheapest oil I can fined and change it at 6,000 miles and it works fine.

Except for their XL-7500 and one grade of their PCO, all of Amsoil's oils lack API certification. Check your owner's manual, and chances are you find that it requires the use of an API certified oil.

Amsoil dealers claim Amsoil is so good it doesn't need piddly API certification. Don't fall for that crap. Follow the instructions in your owner's manual, not some dweeb spamming crap on the Internet.

Yes, we all need to be careful. For all we know, there are people out there that actually believe Jay Leno eats Kraft Singles.....

Talk about spam!

============================== No API ? No kidding? Thats the first thing I look at when buying oil. Thats is very interesting. I researched synthetics a while back and couldnt find anything about Amsoil exept how great it is by the people that are SELLING it. hmmmmm
