Brake and tail light issue

I have a 1968 chevy pickup and for some reason the brake and tail light seem to work backwards. With the headlights on the brake lights don't show up because they are not as bright as the tail lights. The brake lights do work , but they are dim. Any help would be great. All the wiring seems to check out.

Try reversing the bulb in the socket. The filaments may be in reverse on them if the sockets are the original 68 units and you are using a newer

1157 style bulb.

Some of the things I read just amaze me. The correct bulb for a '68 is an 1157. and since the lugs that hold the bulb in are staggered, I would find it hard to believe its installed wrong. The tail lights are wired wrong.

Make sure your tail light housings are grounded properly to the frame.

That's why I said to reverse the bulb. It is called a test. I have seen MANY folks who manage to install them backwards. Then they wonder what is wrong. The staggered pins SHOULD prevent it but they don't if it is a rusty socket. If he can reverse them then have it work then they were just installed wrong, if reversing them won't work then either the ground is bad OR the wiring is reversed. Since he claims the wiring is OK then I would bet it is a bad ground to the box.
