Brake shoes

Hi,

G30 Sportsvan, full floating rearend, 8 lugnuts.

There is a small clicking sound in the right rear bearing so I decided to research it. But.. the brakedrum is stuck behind the drumpads. According to my friend Haynes I have to backup the adjuster to release the brakeshoes. But how do I do that?!? I tried to rotate it with a screwdriver bu no luck. Anyone who know how to tackle this?

Thanx, Timo

There is a little star nut you have to back off. Once you get that, you have to beat the snot out of the drum to get it out. Don't be gentle with it either.

Timo, Bend a stiff piece of stiff wire into a hook that will fit in the adjuster slot. Reach in the slot and pull the little arm away from the star adjuster then back off the adjuster. Make sure your wheels are chocked and the parking brake is off. JR

In order to back off the adjuster, you have to also push the adjusting lever away from the star wheel while you turn it. The lever is designed to turn the star wheel one way and prevent it from backing off the other way. Of course, you want to back it off, so shine a light in there, figure out what side the lever is on, then use one small screwdriver to hold the lever away from the star wheel, and another screwdriver to turn the star wheel.

Ok, thanx guys. I'll give it a try when temperatures return to normal over here. Way too hot at the moment.
