Do all 2001 Chevy trucks come with the built in hepa-filter under the dash?

I have a 2001 Silverado ext cab. When I had it inspected recently, they tried to sell me a $39.00 hepa filter. Was wondering where I can buy this hepa-filter.

Also, when I am driving at around 50 mph, and I touch the gas, I get a pinging noise, almost sound like the timing is not advancing. I am sure that if I took it in, the chevy dealer would say that I need the injectors clean. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what is a fix?

I think you have to replace the HEPA filter under the dash.

I was kidding, but if you have one, my guess is that's where you'll find it.

==================== If there is one it will get dirty and the airflow from the vents will decrease over time(as it gets dirtier). Your owners manual will tell you where it is. pass side under dash. You can always clean the thing out pretty good with compressed air and put it back in if you dont want to buy a new one. As for pinging, a fuel filter and plugs would be a good start, its probably due for them anyway...no?

Pinging is caused by a number of things. One being that the timing is TOO far advanced. Another is dirty fuel injectors. Some other causes are dirty combustion chambers, engine running lean (i.e. clogged fuel filter, injectors, or other reasons. It would be easier to diagnos if we knew your driving habits and what type of fuel you usually run.

Does this not sound like the exhaust leak everyone was telling me about on my '99? only get ticking sound under slight acceleration.. maybe mines not that exhaust gasket...

I would go for the fuel filter, then combustion chamber cleaner, then the injectors if the other two don't fix it. To me, it sounds like the injectors are clogged. Anybody know if GM has a TSB on this? That's pretty low mileage to be having this issue.

============================ pinging and exaust leaks sound very different. On yours have someone give it just a little gas while its in gear(its an auto I hope ). listen under the hood, if you hear a tick, tick, tick its most likely an exhaust leak. What you are hearing is one cylinder leaking a little. You can pin-point it with a piece of 5/8 heater hose stuck to your ear. Usually a small one you cant hear unless there is a small load on the engine. Once you find it you can sometimes (very often) cure it by just tightening the manifold bolts at the leaking cyl.

Hi!

If you have one (and I'm pretty sure you do) is there a Meijer store in your area? I was in there a while back buying an air filter for my '84 and happened to see that they appeared to be selling them.
