Yes, it is. *Never* ever do any kind of wiring that involves the transfer of significant amounts of electrical power without first disconnecting the supply. If you don't, you run the very real risk of starting a fire, hurting yourself (electrical burn) or causing damage to your vehicle. This is good advice even for "little things" that would be protected by a fuse or circuit breaker.

At this point you should be looking for a blown fusible link. These are inline somewhere on the (positive?) battery cable. Chances are that one or more of these have opened up to protect your vehicle's electrical system.

Also check for a depleted battery or loose connection. You may have one and not know it.

I checked all the fuses and they are all ok I checked the ones in the fuse box dash and under the hood. My dad?s friend came to look at it and said there was no spark from the ignition to the starter or vise versa, what did you mean by in line fuses? what is that and I checked the battery cable and it?s connected also. I?m not very mechanical lingual friendly since i?m a girl but if you discibe it or tell me where it is I can find it. but do you have any idea why there would be no spark? thanks for your help. :P :P

Have someone check the hot side of the starter solenoid. See if that is pulling 12v. A fusible link is a type of wire designed to self destruct when certain parameters are met, i.e. overload. You will need a manual or someone with some knowledge of that vehicle to know where those certain links are. Replacing one is simple if it?s easy to get to. Will the engine crank, or when you turn the key does it just click? Perhaps you should start off by simply checking if the battery is holding 12v.
