Electrical problem: No parking lights. WTF?

1988 Chevy G20 van. 5.7/700r4

It's always something. Cruising down the turnpike around dusk, I notice my dash lights not on. I look out the window and didn't see any parking lights on either. So I pull over to verify and sure enough no lights. The brake lights, headlights and turn signals are working fine. Check the fuse for the tail lights and find it blown. Replace and continue on trip. 5 minutes later it blows again. Luckily by this time it was bright enough to continue. So I got to where I was going and looked every bulb socket over just to make sure. Bulbs, sockets and wires to the sockets all look good. Still blowing fuses though, but now it is as soon as I turn the headlight switch on. No more delay. First 3 fuses took 5 - 10 minutes to blow, but now it is immediate. Problems like these have never been my forte, so here I am asking for any suggestions that anyone has as to where to begin looking. I would love to take it to the shop, but that is not an option $$$. I do have a GM electrical manual with all circuit diagrams, and from what I can tell it is a relatively simple circuit with only a few legs. I am going to take a shot in the dark and just replace the headlight switch. It looks like the original and I'm sure they don't last forever.

Any help from anyone is much appreciated. Tips, tricks, where to look and what to look at would be great if anyone has any idea. Thanks in advance. Hope to get this sorted out soon.
