envoy 6 cyl. oil changes

I change the oil in my 04 Envoy 6 cyl. every 3000 miles. I know the manual indicates longer intervals. Am I wasting my money and nature's oil or am I increasing the life of the engine?

I look at it as pay me now or pay me later. I change mine every 3000. I can change my own oil and filter for 10.00 Pretty cheap. And that's a AC Filter and castrol 5-30W 6qts

How long do you want the engine to last? Do you think the owner's manual is wrong? I have a 99 Silverado with the 5.3L, 4x4. It has 160k miles and doesn't use oil. I change oil every 8k. Lots of experts can tell you the importance of oil changes and minimizing wear on the engine. In the 50's and 60's my dad changed oil frequently. He added a quart of kerosene and ran the engine for about a minute before doing the oil change. He claimed it got the sludge out. In those days, it might have been true.

I change oil on our 03 Envoy anytime after the oil life indication reaches

50%. Generally around 6000 miles. You won't hurt anything changing at 3000 but you won't know if it helps either. Unless someone were to run a controlled test, using multiple vehicles and various driving schedules to prove otherwise, I think it's generally a "feel good" item.

Go ahead and change it ever 1000 miles if it makes you feel better The oil companies need the money very bad now that gas is about $3.oo Over the past 20 years I have changed ever 5 to 6 thousand and have not had problems associated with the oil . Something else wore out first.. fyi

Just curious, what wore out? as to big oil needing the money, unless your using Mobile, shell, chevron etc in the crankcase as well as the gastank, how is 4-5 qrts helping big oil? One thing that has struck me funny about the whole oil price fiasco is a qrt of motor oil has not gone through the ceiling. Intersting isnt it.

I change the oil in my '03 Envoy about every 5000 to 7000 miles, always used Castrol 10W30 in it, and most all vehicles I have owned, never a oil related problem, but whats the pros and cons about synthenc motor oils, thinking of using it on the next vehicle, wonder if it would hurt to switch to it with so many miles on it, 120K miles, and my 2000 Safari van, 4.3 V6 with 60 K miles on it, hear it helps on gas milage, but is the higher cost worth it???

I have an 03 Envoy. I usually change the oil every 3000 miles as well. I say usually because the oil doesn't break down as quick w/highway miles. So I look at the oil to see how dirty it is. I may go as much as 5000 miles per change but no less than 3000. However, because of having to maintain 7 vehicles I recently switched to synthetic and still change it based on how dirty it looks which has always been sooner than the oil manufacturer recommends. Personally, i'd rather be safe than sorry. Ounce of prevention.... .
