Haunted electrical system

97 s-10 blazer 100,000 miles, with a/c, elect windows, seats, door locks and an after market remote start.

The problem started about 2 years ago, the remote for the door unlock appeared to quit functioning, replaced the battery and problem seemed to disappear. After a period of time, the remote would sometimes unlock/lock the doors and sometimes it would require several button presses to operate the locks, everything else worked as advertised. About a year ago things started getting interesting, when driving down a dirt road that was fairly rough, the overhead lights would flash off and on, BUT only if there was a passenger seated in the right front seat, and even this was sporadic, with no passenger, no light flashing. With a passenger in the front and when the lights flashed, the door locks would sometimes operate from the remote, but the master lock control on the drivers door always worked fine. As part of trouble shooting this, I discovered, you could lock all the doors from the back hatch lock. This past weekend, the wife had some friends out for a drive, the lights where flashing, the remote wouldn't lock the doors, the master lock control wouldn't work, the back hatch trick didn't work, she had to manually unlock the doors.

This problem is getting worse as time goes on and I like to hear some suggestions for a place to start investigating and evicting any evil electrical spirits.

thanks jerry

my guess would be somewhere in or around the remote start. might have crossed wires, or have loose wires.

Have you ever cleaned the contacts inside your remote? Mine (97 Sierra) just takes a twist with a dime to open up and I use a soft cloth to rub the contacts clean, I do it about every three months or so.

TOP POST....Ok this happens more than enough...Bad thing is it has steps..First we will start with you transmitter....How many are you using? second after you replaced you battery did you reprogram them....You can send a scramble frequency and throw the system in wack...The easiest thing to do and its free ....Goto your nearest dealer go into parts and ask them to test your transmitter...Its a little machine don't take long just turns on you put your transmitter on it and push the buttons...Now if you are getting a signal the tester will beep...If not it won't...Simple enough...Test each button 4 or 5 times to make sure your getting a signal everytime....If not two options new battery or new remote...Then you may have to pay but sometimes if you buy it there the dealer will reprogram or resync your transmitters...When they do that they need every remote you use on the car all of them need reprogrammed to the same setting... That is the first and east option if that dont work...Then we get into you keyless entry module and a sticking doorlock switch or actuator.....But start with the remotes first...Need any other info just let me know... Thanks for the info, I'll get the dealer to test the remote. I didn't know about the reprograming after replaceing the battery. How is that accomplished? thanks jerry
