ISUZU NPR DIESEL CYL. 1 LOW POWER

THE VALVES ARE IN ADJUSTMENT, CYL. 1 ALMOST DEAD AT IDLE, BUT WORKS SOMEWHAT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. REMOVED GLOW PLUG, SET AT TOP DEAD CENTER, USED RUBBER TIP BLOW GUN TO SHOOT IN 175 PSI AIR, NO LEAKS PAST INTAKE OR EXHAUST; VERY, VERY SLIGHT AIR OUT OIL FIL CAP. WHEN IDLING, LOOSENED ALL 4 FUEL LINES BEFORE INJECTORS, ONE AT A TIME, BIG SLOWDOWN IN IDLE ON CYLINDERS 2, 3 AND 4; NO DIFFERENCE ON CYLINDER 1. NOTICED THAT WHEN LOOSENING THE FUEL LINES THAT THAT FUEL SEEMED TO MOSTLY DRIBBLE OUT OF THE CYLINDER 1 LINE, BUT SQUIRTED STRONGLY OUT OF THE OTHER THREE CYLINDERS. LOTS OF BLUE SMOKE WHEN WARMING UP, LOTS OF SOOT ON HIGHWAY. 1990, 65,000 MILES. ANY IDEAS? THANKS.

The pump should have held up longer than this, but it isn't unheard of for a pump to go down on one cylinder. Any time the pump comes off for rework, always have the injectors tested and reworked as needed.

So....You have diagnosed it already, pull the injector pump and have it worked at a reliable diesel shop, also have the injectors pop tested and reworked if the pop pressure isn't within specs.
