lockable Tonneau and ladders on silverado

Hello - is there such a thing as a lockable Tonneau / ladder rack combination for a Silverado? I have a 2000 Silverado ext cab flare side. I do not think I want a cap due to storage issues when I am not using it.

How do you handle bed storage security on trips? Things like chain saws, tools and maybe a generator.

I am preparing to go south for some disaster relief work. I have taken the suburban before. ladders on the roof, equipment in the back. The Silverado gets better gas mileage but my Tonneau Cover is the snap down type and I do not want to have $$$ of tools ripe for the picken. Plus, I do not have a ladder rack. I suppose I could just get a job box and ladder rack. I suppose I could just take the sub. I suppose I could get a cap with ladder rack.

What would you do? What do you do?

Also, of course, I do not want to spend big bucks and I do not want a lot of stuff taking up room in the garage when I just use the pickup as a pickup (No cover/ladder rack).

Thanks all

Personally I'd get the cap. I've had both tonneaus and caps on trucks and something always seems to be 1" taller than the tonneau cover so the cap just seems to fit better and is easier to load and unload stuff in the front of the bed. Storage is easy, just sit it on a couple 2x4's in the year, hand is sideways on the side of the garage or build a simple lift to pull it up to the garage roof. I tend to leave my cap on unless I'm carrying something that requires its removal then I sit the cap in the yard, haul what I need, then put the cap back on so its never stored for more than a day. However there are universal ladder racks which will fit around a cap. They have thin metal strips that sit on top of the bed rails and under the cap then the ladder supports are connected to them rather than being bolted to the cap. One of those should clear a hard tonneau cover.

I've got an undercover tonneau cover. It is a hard "plastic" cover that also covers the tailgate and locks it down. It is strong enough to stand on (I do when I wash the cab roof) and just today I emailed them about mounting a bike rack to the cover. They told me "no problem" as it is VERY STRONG. You might want to check them out.

I have just the Power Roll Top myself, but I love it. It's not cheap though, but it does look good and serves it's purpose.
