My truck doesn't start unless...

Hi guys:

I have a 1995, S10, 4.3 engine, manual trasnmission and the problem I'm having is that it doesn't start unless I put a little bit of gas in the place where the injectors go. If I put a little bit of gas there the truck starts and no problema after that unless I turn it off and try to turn back on again,..then I have to do the same thing to get it started.

This happened after I took the truck to a mechanic to fix an RPM problem and then took it to a car wash and I washed the engine. After I washed the engine the tuck started good, no problem and I drove it home from the car wash place. Next day it won't start at all. I checked everything (electricity and gas) and everything was fine and then I decided to put a little bit of gas on top the injectors and it started without any problem and it runs without any problem until I turn it off and try to turn it back on again.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much in advance,

Arionardo.

Truck wouldn't stay running, I would imagine, if the fuel pump were bad. Even if the pressure was low, it would shut off while driving.

My guess, cold start injector...if it has one, or the connection to the TBI that gives the signal for the cold start spray has been damaged or contaminated.

I would check and clean ALL the connections on the TBI first.

BTW, you should use a LOT of caution when spraying your engine at a car wash, or anywhere for that matter. Water is NOT friendly to electrical connections, and cars now have far to many under the hood. Not like shoving a rag in the air cleaner intake on your Dad's Nova and going to town with some engine degreaser and the garden hose anymore.

If it starts with a shot of gas, the fuel pump is good, the oil pressure switch has to be good as well a its connection, that leaves the fuel pump relay being bad. Have you tried to start it with a long crank time. Once oil pressure comes up to minimum spec if it is the relay it should start. No cold start injector on engine that I know of. Relay box is in engine bay left front cornor if I remember correctly. Whitelightning
