Opinions on Cooper AST/Uniroyal AWP

Any opinions by users of Cooper AST and Uniroyal Laredo AWP tires? They're one of the few options in the old 16.5 size on my Dodge.

TIA

Have not used a AST. But have used other Cooper tires in the past and found Cooper to be a decent tire.

Cooper is a pretty good tire. They are really inexpensive around my area, because they are made nearby. I've heard that they were recently awarded the tire contract for the Formula 2000 racing series.

I'm running Cooper Discovery A/T's now and so far I like them. Handle great on the highway and perform very good on muddy roads and snow. Only negative point I have with them is the load rating is "D" but I can live with that. IIRC they were $115 per tire mounted.

I used to run Uniroyal's back in the day, didn't like them at all. No traction on damp ground, and I'd imagine much worse on wet or snowy ground. Didn't keep 'em long enough to find out.

Used to install Coopers, but it's been ages. They were decent, nicely priced tires.

All I run is BFGoodrich AT/TA ko's now. All the people I know that 'use' their trucks (ie - 4x'ing or snow plowing) run BFG's. Not sure how they compare in price to Uniroyal, but they're prolly more expensive than the Cooper, and I know they make 'em in 16.5".

That's funny, I just replaced my Uniroyal's with BFGoodrich and am not impressed. I agree with you that the Uniroyals had a hard time getting my truck moving in the rain but the truck tracked true and straight and would turn like a sports car on dry roads. The BFGoodrich tend to make it wander a little and act skittish at highway speeds. This surprised me considering how well their tires work on my TransAm and Magnum.

Which BFG's did you get for the truck? I've always run the AT's, even on my old '85 C-10, and especially on the C-10, it handled very well, all things considered - it was missing the anti-sway bar....and even the 33x12.5" TA's on my '79 K-1500 work quite well, wet or dry......

I am completely satisfied with my BFG AT's in all weather. Have a friend with the same tires who currently has 56k on them, still going strong. I personally will not buy a different truck tire.

I've had Uniroyal Tiger Paws on a couple trucks and I didn't like them at all. I have them on my 2000 Sonoma, as well. The biggest thing I notice about them is the annoying squealing going around even the lightest turn... they always squeal. Traction and treadwear leaves alot to be desired, too. There's a reason they were used as factory tires on so many vehicles... CHEAP!

I've got Mastercraft Courser HTR's (made by Cooper) on my '95 F-150 and they have been really good, IMO. Got about 28,000 miles on them and still around 7/32's tread.
