OT (its a Northstar) How to fix piston slap issues on a 2003 Deville

The tech next to me was proceeding with a "decarbonization" procedure on this Northstar engine. He managed to drive it out of the shop and onto the parking lot before it puked it's guts out all over the ground. He ended up "hydrolocking" the engine, broke a rod/s and the ends of the rod decided to flail around and tear up the block. Pretty funny, (mainly because it wasn't me).

Oh man would that be embarassing! Did it make a neato exploding noise or did it just silent puke it's innards all over the place?

Hi!

Ouch. I guess that's what you could call "shotgunning a problem" in the end.

What happens to a motor like that? Is it just time to throw the whole thing away or are some pieces salvageable?

Unfortunately, I wasn't present when it blew up. But I did hear the swearing! Heh heh.

Our shop is quite progressive, and you can't find good tech's easily these days, so basically the attitude is "shit happens". The tech was even talking to me about what might have happened and I just told him...who cares, go order a new motor and move on.

He's actually a top notch tech. Just made an error that bit him. It happens to everyone at one time or another.

Well enough of the random comments, now get back to the point.

Did he get all the carbomn out?

That's good news. How did the customer take the news?

You're right about that. Also, are they just going to authorize doing just a short block replacement or the whole engine? It would be nice if you get all the top half to play with, but I would guess that you guys will be transferring parts to the short block? Or, maybe short and long block doesn 't apply to the modular engines?

These engines only come one way, pretty much complete. About the only things they don't come with are the intake, and exhaust.
