ping: GARY

I know that others may know the answers to this, so I'll ask on here.

I just picked up an '85 Suburban yesterday. It's got a 350 and a

700R-4 tranny. I know these 700's weren't the greatest in the early-mid 80's. According to the guy I got it from, it was rebuilt about 3 years ago, by a shop that I probably would stay away from if I needed tranny work, so heaven knows how good a job they did (I don't know the first thing about transmissions anyway).

Starting out in first gear, the transmission shifts to second alright, but then right after it shifts to second it jumps to 3rd and the engine bogs down because of it (at least I THINK it's shifting to

3rd). Giving it the slightest amount of gas makes it shift back to 2nd and then it acts like it should the rest of the way up through third and OD.

The guy who I bought it from said that another shop told him it was on the way to needing a rebuild... but I don't trust that shop either. And the only other shop around here besides those two is Aamco, and that goes without saying that I especially don't trust those idiots.

Gary or any other tranny guru's got any ideas? TV cable maybe? Or should I use it for a boat anchor and find a TH350/400?

Thnaks! Tony

Dunno the answer to that question as I'm a moron with AT's as well, but if you need a TH350 I have one that runs perfect that I'd trade for that TH700R4 (as long as the case ain't cracked).

Tony;

It's one of the big GM screw-ups, you are feeling the ocnverter lock up as soon as it hits second

Well, I adjusted the TV cable a little bit, because it didn't seem to shift down very easily when you punched the gas. Now it shifts alot better at all speeds and I don't notice it locking up in 2nd anymore, at least the little bit that I've driven it. It's not licensed and I dunno if I'm going to license it at all, as I anticipate selling it anyway.

Thanks! Tony
