Speed sensor wacky?

Ok, here's one that's been bothering me for a while now. the truck is a 2000 GMC Sonoma 2WD, 2.2L engine, automatic trans.

Whenever I go above 65-70 MPH, the speedometer needle will "quiver" back and forth constantly. It moves up and down, varying by 1-2 mph. If I have the cruise control on, it goes nuts and speeds up/slows down with the speedometer. The ABS light will also come on, and the red BRAKE light will flash at random.

Could this be a bad speed sensor? I haven't had it looked at and I'm damn sure not paying the stealership $45 just to "look" at it. I know nothing about these newer plastic, computer controlled vehicles. HELP

Thanks, Tony Kimmell

Drive to your friendly neighborhood AutoZone, they usually will scan the vehicle for errors in the computer.

FWIW, When my VSS (speed sensor) went out my "check engine" and ABS lights both came on. My speedo did not read anything at all though.
