Stripped threads

The other day my sons GMC pickup wouldn't start. Turns out the starter as loose. Usually no problem but the short bolt hole (the one on the out side) is stripped out.

It is a 95 4 cylinder 5 speed.

Is there anything we can do to bolt the starter back in tight enough so it won't come loose again?

Buy a new pair of bolts and a heli coil to fix the bad hole.

You can try Loctite "Form-A-Thread" compound. If it fails, then the only thing left is a thread insert such as Helicoil.

Drill and retap, get a helicoil. Be greatful is is not the inside one. I just fixed a GMC Sonoma that had both the bolts BROKEN off....oh what joy that was. Four drill bits later. If you get the 12" long bits, you can drill it without removing anything.
