temp. guage

I have a 5.7L 90 chevy pickup and the temperature guage has suddenly quit working. Does anyone know how i would go about fixing that?

Check the coolant temp sender to make sure it's still hooked up, and if it is hooked up, make sure the connection isn't corroded. The sender is located in the driver's side cylinder head, between spark plugs 1 and 3. It has a single wire leading to it. If it is hooked up and clean, test to make sure it's working using a DMM.

Take the resistance of the sender while the engine is dead cold. Then, fire her up and let her get warm. Resistance will decrease as termperature increases and vice-versa.

If all of the above checks out, it's a broken wire between the sender and the guage or the gauge is shot.
