Tranny Cooler as Engine Oil Cooler?

The recent discussions in this group about whether to by-pass the in-rad tranny cooler and just use an external tranny cooler have gotten me thinking about the engine oil cooler.

1) Would it be better to by-pass the in-rad engine oil cooler and just use an external one? 2) Could a tranny cooler be used for this purpose or would the by-pass never allow the oil to flow through it (since it works on viscosity - engine oil is thicker than tranny fluid)? Any input is appreciated. Kevin

no, the engine oil cooler usually is quite sufficient.

no... if you look at a trans cooler it has 3/8" tubes... my factory (88 350 TBI) oil cooler has 5/8" tubes to and from the radiator. I don't believe a trans cooler can flow enough to be used for engine oil.
