Me and my dad are building/restoring a pickup truck. He has a title and most all of the pieces for a 73 chevy. Expectedly, the cab is rusted beyond repair. So we are building this from two different trucks. We are using the body from an 81 he has, and everything else from the 73. There is no problems with compatibility as the body bolts to the chassis the same, just the body style is a little different.
The problem is, he does not have the title for the 81. What would be the best legal way to put these two trucks together and title for the road use.
We know simple changing the VIN plate would be illegal, and would cause suspicion because the new VIN plate used would be for the 73, and the body would look like an 81. So what should we do?
Is there any legal way we can go down to the DMV and tell them what we did, and have them do a reconstructed title?
