I don't think that it's a design flaw on GM's part because this design has a long, proven track record. I've owned numerous Chevies with this type of A-arm and every one has gone over 100,000 miles without a problem. My daughter currently drives a 1987 S10 Blazer with 210,000 miles on it and has ony recently had to replace tierod ends (still has the original balljoints). Sometimes it's shoddy maintenance. Sometimes it's owner neglect. And sometimes it's just the luck of the draw.
