water leak in cowl of 95 GMC??

My 95 GMC Sierra (3/4 ton) has an annoying leak following a rain or snow fall. There will be a small amount of water that will leave a small trail on the right floor mat toward the door jam. Last year in the winter it filled with water (blower housing) and froze, then when I turned on the blower it shattered the squirrel cage. Don't want to repeat that this year. It (the leak) seems to be coming from the blower housing. I have read some about this problem here in the past but can't find the thread (it might be too old). Where is the typical problem that causes this, is it a leak under the cowl or where. I've looked and I am baffled.

Any help accepted, and you have my grateful thanks of course.

Have you taken it to a professional to have it looked at? That might be the best thing to do if you can't locate the leak.

Thanks for the answer, however I will keep looking. The "experts" used to frequent this newsgroup, they don't seem to be here any more.

Had 2 - 86 and they both leaked there.

Have a 1980 and also an 82 and they also leak there.

My wife had a 86 Monte Carlo and it leaked so bad she had to wear plastic bags on her feet.

Chevy has a problem with this problem :)

Thanks Gordie,

That is very enlightening, though not exactly what I was wanting to hear. I had hoped for a solution, did you ever find one?? Other than buying Ford or Chrysler??

Had two Dodges. One Jeep YJ and one 84 pickup. BOTH leak from the same area. The Jeep can't keep rain out from around the windscreen and the Dodge is known to rot out above the windscreen and at the bottom of the vents in front of the windscreen.

Don't feel defeated enough to consider a Ford so we bought a 2005 Cavalier and a 2006 Silverado just in the past few months. Even a Chevy won't last forever but it commands the best resale value overall in the bargain. I am 53. This should be my last truck unless there is some sort of "Act of God".

BS the boys on a Ford NG and see what they say when you tell them the cowl leaks on an F250
