What is "EQUAL" for truck tires??

I was at tire store today getting rear tires for the backhoe. I noticed when they mounted two front tires on a semi rig that they poured in a package of something they called "EQUAL" into each tire. This was about a cup of a white powder. Had to leave before I could ask what it was for. Anybody know??

Equal is an artificial sweetener.... when it mixes with the condensation inside the tire & you get stuck somewhere... you can drain it out and drink it so you have a nice sweet beverage. ;)

It is a material that distributes itself around the inside of the tire and very effectively balances the tire and wheel combo.

So what are the disadvantages? why isn't it more widely used?

The company that makes it is fairly small and doesn't have a large advertising budget that would be needed to run national ads.

I am not aware of any disadvantages. It is a powder, so it doesn't make the kind of mess associated with tire sealants. Its main application is for large truck tires that are hard to balance with weights. It also keeps the tire and wheel balanced as the tire wears. You won't get that with weights.

I asked another group I follow that runs BIG tires and they thought it was the cat's meow. BB's, and for REALLY big tires, golf balls, are also other alternatives.
