Dodge Dakota on CBS news

Bad publicity for Dodge. Apparently the ball joints are failing relatively quickly on these SUV's. In some cases dramatically.... like a wheel/axle assembly ventures down the road without the rest of the car....

Hmmm..my family has owned three...two of them well into the 100K miles. My son has a '96 LE with 80K. None has had any ball joint problems. Wouldn't his be a topic in this NG if people were having that problem. By the way, the Dakota is a truck, not a SUV. did you mean the Durango, perhaps?

You are correct however the Dakota was mentioned too at the end. Report was mostly on Durango. Sorry for confusion.

Number of complaints were in the hundreds on the Dodge but you could count on one hand the complaints for other makes.

Precisely. Some of us just want somebody to love, others just need somebody to hate. He's picked Chrysler.

as a ex-member (sold truck), of a very large Dakota group, yes there is a problem, just because it hasn't happened to you yet, doesn't mean it won't. yes the problem is with the darango as they used the Dakota parts but the Durango is allot heavier.
